The Fonly Institute name was chosen because it is a contraction of "If only" and a play on the word "phone" since we are all about computers and telecommunications. Fonly was formed to provide a structure that does not rely totally on volunteers to do more such designs and products of the future
We love it when people come to us and the first words out of their mouths are "if only..." or "what we really need is...". That's when computer pioneers and visionaries, Lee Felsenstein and Bob Marsh, get excited. These guys were there at the beginning of the personal computer revolution. Now they're here at another beginning - that of global ICT connecting all the people of the world whether rural or urban, unserved or underserved.
